“Cars” is a CGI-animated film series and media franchise that is based on the world of anthropomorphic vehicles created by John Lasseter. The series began with a 2006 film of the same name, produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Pictures. In 2011, a sequel was released, called “Cars 2.”

Pixar filmmakers wanted the cars in Cars to look and feel real. To achieve this goal, they sought inspiration from real life automobiles and gathered thousands of still photos and hours of footage. To capture the essence of the cars’ personalities, the Pixar team also used professional racing legend Richard Petty to lend the movie’s authenticity. To get a sense of the racing world, Pixar teams made extended field trips to the nation’s most popular speedways. These trips helped the animation studio capture the aural and visual effects of rumbling engines and blinding floodlights. In addition, the filmmakers sought to convey the atmosphere of tailgate barbecues and racing fans in real life.

As the Cars franchise grew, human and car cultures began to merge. Some of them even began to have human-like characteristics. The evolution of the technology behind cars led to the development of cybernetic interfaces. As the technology advanced, cars began to function like humans, and some even mutated and spawned new species.

While Pixar has never offered a clear explanation of how the characters’ cars evolved, fans of the films have speculated about how the world came to be. During the production of the first movie, Kiel Murray explained that the team was going “by feel,” which means that some artists scrapped the storyboards they had worked on because they felt the images were off-kilter. Afterward, the creative director for the Cars franchise, Jay Ward, offered a theory on how the Cars universe began.

In addition to Cars, Disney has announced that it will release “Cars On The Road” as a spinoff series for Disney+ in 2022. The series will feature Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy in the lead roles. The show will also feature new characters. Moreover, Disney has promised imaginative destinations and the return of old friends.

In the new installment, Bonnie Hunt returns as Sally Carrera, the lawyer turned girlfriend of McQueen. She drives a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera, a modified version of the model from Cars. Sally Carrera’s make and model is a reflection of her sophistication and class. In contrast, it is also a juxtaposition to her connection to a small town. It is the only modern car in town.

Pixar’s “Cars” franchise has become a massive hit. The first movie, “Lightning McQueen,” followed a talking race car Lightning McQueen on his way to a race. While it wasn’t as beloved as Pixar’s other work, the film featured a great cast, including Paul Newman, who would appear in Cars 4 as a supporting character.
