Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover and more – the british car is a sight to behold. But what makes these cars so special? And why should you care where they’re made? Whether you’re on the lookout for a brand new vehicle or considering leasing one, it’s important to understand why choosing a car made in Britain is a good idea.

British cars are often regarded as among the best in the world and it’s easy to see why. Aside from the fact that these cars are well-designed and engineered, they’re also a lot of fun to drive. You can enjoy a rush of adrenaline as you blast along the motorway in your luxury SUV or get the wind in your hair when you take to country roads in your sportscar. And that’s the real reason why you should choose a british car – it offers you a truly premium driving experience.

By 1955, five companies produced 90% of Britain’s motor vehicle production – BMC, Ford, Rootes, Standard-Triumph and Vauxhall. While many of these firms had achieved some success, labour-intensive methods and wide model ranges hindered their ability to reduce manufacturing costs compared to their European competitors. The success of the Volkswagen Beetle, Renault 5 and Citroen DS helped foreign producers gain ground in the UK market.

The 1970s marked the start of rationalisation of British Leyland’s product portfolio, with many of their older models replaced by a more modern alternative. Front-wheel drive became commonplace, and hatchback body styles, which had debuted in Europe on the French Renault 16 and Fiat 127, began to become more popular in Britain. Nissan’s range of Datsun-badged cars proved particularly popular, offering cheap running costs and excellent equipment levels for their price.

Today, there are a number of british cars that remain as iconic and coveted as ever, including the Aston Martin DB5, Rolls-Royce Phantom III, Bentley Continental GT and the McLaren F1. The Range Rover is a classic and recognisable all over the world – it’s even used by the Queen for private driving!

For a more sporty drive, the Jaguar F-Type is another of Britain’s greatest cars. Its low point of gravity and well-balanced design ensures it’s a pleasure to drive, while its potent V8 engine will give you goosebumps when you hit the accelerator. It’s not quite as fast as the Bentley, but you can experience some serious pace by leasing one of these beauties.
